SwakSmack Application Notes

The first test of the SwakSmack applications for Windows is almost ready for some others to play with, but there are some limitations one needs to be aware of.

  • This is a Windows application, does not run as a native Linux or Mac application.
  • The application is free for non-commercial use. Should that ever change, you will be notified.
  • The .NET 3.5 framework must be installed. If it is not, the application will NOT run.
  • There is no proxy server support in the current version so if you attempt to use this from a location that requires a http proxy configuration (e.g. some work locations), it probably will not work. I'll be looking to add proxy server support in the next test release.
  • The Outwit Opt In alert is accurate, the Outwit Vote alert shows up when the contestant is being selected. I have a workaround in mind, but until I get it in, just FYI.
  • Not all options/alerts have been tested. Not all Window configurations have been tested (i.e. stand alone, domain, restricted permission, etc.)
  • There is NO installer. You will just unzip/extract the the download to a location of your choice and run swaksmack.exe
  • In order to get PM/LR info, you need to enter your JellyFish API token. It can be found here.
  • Your password hash is encrypted when it is stored (your actual password is only stored in memory to generate the password hash and is NOT saved to disk). For more info on the password hash read more here. That being said, the ONLY secure computer is one that is unplugged. If you have any reason to suspect that someone is trying to get your JellyFish password or are using this application on a public terminal by running it off of a usb key, do not select "Remember Information" when you log in.
  • Any data the application collects (e.g. options) is stored locally on your computer. No information is transmitted to me or anyone else (well except to JellyFish to get the information). The only information that is transmitted are the information requests to JellyFish to get the deal and PM/LR data. Per the JellyFish API, your token and password are encrypted/encoded prior to being sent. Should the handling of your data change in any way, you will be notified (most likely by the application)
  • The phantom blinkie problem still exists with the PM indicator in the application as it does with browser. This is not my fault.
  • Things like options and application configuration are likely to changed. It's just the nature of the application right now.
  • I'm still deciding what to do about the source (closed vs open source). Since there is encryption involved, I really don't want to release that source (although I'm sure some hackers could break it.....I mean people crack Vista, photshop, etc)
